McPherson County, located chiefly in the rolling glacial hills section of the Missouri Coteau in north central South Dakota, was named for the Civil War General, James B. McPherson.
The county teems with history. Indian trails twisted through the native prairie grasses, a fur trading post was located in the vicinity, Chief Sitting Bull traversed the area, and stone circles found throughout the county markt he habitation of tribes from centuries ago.
